Welcome to the Evolutionary Demography Society !
The Evolutionary Demography Society is a scientific organization dedicated to conceptual integration across disciplines concerned with population processes, especially human demography, population ecology and evolutionary biology.
Our aim: To advance understanding of how environmental, ecological, and evolutionary forces shape fertility, mortality and migration schedules in humans and across the tree of life.
Our aim: To advance understanding of how environmental, ecological, and evolutionary forces shape fertility, mortality and migration schedules in humans and across the tree of life.
- Our philosophy: Multidisciplinary collaboration not only advances basic science, but also engenders novel strategies for conservation of biodiversity and novel solutions to impending societal issues like healthy aging, social security planning, and international challenges of changing densities and structures of populations across the globe.
- Our annual meeting: We are dedicated to hosting a multidisciplinary, brilliant, interactive, and inspiring annual scientific meeting where a creative exchange of ideas is facilitated and encouraged across diverse disciplines. We bring together early and late career researchers, including demographers, biologists, epidemiologists, gerontologists, and sociologists.
- Our first meeting (2013) was convened by founding president James W. Vaupel at the University of Southern Denmark (Odense, Denmark).
- Governance: volunteer Board of about 20 researchers from diverse fields. We have over 400 members, as of 2024.
